The Regional Library of Karol Kmeťko in Nitra is a cultural, informational, scientific and educational institution whose main mission is to build and maintain a universal library fund, regardless of the media, and to provide users of all age, social and professional groups with access to information corresponding to their cultural, educational and researchy needs.
The founder of the Regional Library of Karol Kmeťko in Nitra is the Nitra self-governing region.
IMPORTANCE OF THE LIBRARY:
The main importance of the regional library lies primarily in methodological, educational, counselable, and statistical-analytical activities and in the coordination of the activities of libraries in the area of fulfilling the whole-community tasks.
FUNCTIONS OF THE LIBRARY:
- the general library for the city of Nitra,
- regional library for the districts of Nitra, Šaľa and Zlaté Moravce,
- regional library for the regional libraries of the Nitra region.
There is a number of important activities that take place in the library, and there are a few that are inseparable from the library and imminent to its functioning. One of the most important functions of the library is to make sure the readers approximately know the funds and know what services they can expect to get in the library. For this particular purpose, the library organizes a number of different types of educational events, e. g. information education for elementary and secondary school-pupils, writer-reader meetings, books talks, many competitions, creative workshops, etc. The primary purpose of all these events is to actually raise the interest in reading books.
